![]() | Samantha Wallace "I would best describe this collection as a study of existence, the power of the human mind and all the questions it creates for itself. An objective correlative based on the idea of solipsism and of the internal struggle to find some identity." Samantha Wallace |
![]() | Romola Richards From an early age Romola Richards had a passion for painting. "I spent my youth in Christchurch and then later lived on a farm at Mt Nessing, Albury. During the years I was there, I came to know and love the austere beauty of the McKenzie Country. I was so filled with the desire to paint that I enrolled at the University of Canterbury's School of Fine Art and studied under Bill Sutton and Rudolf Gopas. It was an exciting period of my life. I was thrown in at 'the deep end' so to speak, and sought to discover my own self expression." Romola Richards |
![]() | MUKA Youth Print Exhibition A display of original contemporary art exclusively for young people aged 5-18. This event gives young people the opportunity to purchase original lithographs for a fraction of the normal price. It is the intention of the artists that the works will become the exclusive property of the purchaser. A number of well-known artists from all over the world have been invited to produce small original lithographs. The works reflect the normal concerns of the artists; there is no patronising or "talking down" to children. Visitors to the show can buy a maximum of three lithographs for themselves, not for adults. All works are sold at a uniform low price, set according to specific costs in every country. |
![]() | Ashburton District Schools Exhibition 9th -28th October 2007 An exhibition of works by the children and young people of the Ashburton District. Come and view the creative work taking place in schools around your community. "Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up." Pablo Picasso |
![]() | Art Studies Exhibition An exhibition of Year Two students of the Art Studies course at the Aoraki Polytechnic (Ashburton). This year students have completed modules in 3D studies, acrylic painting, printmaking, watercolour painting and interior design. It is wonderful to see the students' progression from their first year. They have absorbed and applied what they have learnt to these new disciplines. Most students are starting to emerge with their own style. The second part of the course, which commences in 2008 will see students being innovative with the techniques they have learnt over the past two years. |
