EXHIBITION DOCUMENTING A PLACE IN TIME
My
Place: A Place in Time
Exhibition at Ashburton Art Gallery: 4 November 2004 – 9 January
2005
My Place: A Place in Time is a collection of photographs that portrays
the importance of place in our everyday lives.
This exhibition is an ongoing multimedia documentary project arising
out of the School of Fine Arts, University of Canterbury.
As
part of the 2003 Arts Festival, The Press newspaper invited readers
to volunteer to be photographed in places of special significance
to them. My Place is part of a large documentary project directed
by Glenn Busch at Canterbury University School of Fine Arts. Busch
has a vision for a permanent visual and aural record of a slice
of Canterbury life. The exhibition features 60 selected photographs
reflecting a wide range of people and lifestyles.
My
Place is the final segment of Busch’s project collating a
permanent visual and aural record of a slice of New Zealand. In
his concern for social and community wellbeing Busch sees self awareness
as a prerequisite to social responsibility.
For
the first four days of this exhibition there will be a small complementary
collection of photographs in an adjacent gallery taken by local
13 – 16 year olds from their photography workshop capturing
‘Our Place in Ashburton’.
Ashburton
Art Gallery has free admission and is open Tuesday to Friday 10am
– 4pm, Saturday and Sunday, 1 – 4pm, closed Monday.
